This document contains the names and signatures of several pottery owners in Delft.
Lambertus van Eenhoorn owned De Metaale Pot, Pieter Cox and his wife Joanna van der Heul, the famous Greek A factory, Johannes Heraut De Porcelyne Schotel and many others owners.
There seems to be a list of their names with figures beside each name. Were they taking out a joint loan or did they owe money to someone? Any light that can be shed would be gratefully received.
with thanks in advance.
Anne
Dear Anne,
In this deed, the people named in the beginning of the document authorised lawyer Jan de Bries and master potters Lieve van Dalen and Gillis Bailli to deal on behalf of all and each of them with the financial issues concerning the delivery of pottery to porcelain salesman Jan de Bruijn and his late wife Grietje Zegers. The figures behind their names (ordered according to the height of the amount) are the sums owed by Jan de Bruijn and his deceased wife Grietje Zegers in guilders, stuivers and penningen.
Dear Rene
Many thanks as always for your response.
Could I ask you to clarify a couple of points please?
I've managed to read almost all the names on the list and the amounts they were owed.
But I can't find Lambertus van Eenhoorn or Johanna van der Heul (widow of Pieter Cocx).
Also above the entry for Simon Simonsz Mesch (who's owed the least amount of money) there seems to be something written above his name. Can you see what that says?
very best wishes.
Anne
Dear Anne, above the name of Simon Mesch is an addition to the notice for Goris Toonburgh, it reads: laetstelijck <in regard> van den comparant. Johanna Cocx is listed as juffrou de weduwe Kocx. The first line of the second scan mentions Van Eenhoorn: van den co,mparant Eenhoorn 385-9-0
Many thanks Otto. The additional information is really helpful.
best wishes
Anne
