Legal document 1703

This seems to include 2 cousins: Simon Simonsz Mesch and Johannes Jorisz Mesch, but I can't make out anything else.

Is it a will perhaps?

Thanks as always for any response.

best wishes

Anne

It is a statement by Simon Simonsz Mesch, Johannes Mesch Joriszoon, and Louis Victor, all master potters and headmen of the potters' guild of Delft on behalf of Jean Aujou aka Sauvage, merchant and burgher (poorter) of Delft. With this statement, they confirmed that at that moment Jean Aujou had lived in Delft for over 20 years and had always earned his living there as a merchant in Delft pottery. The latter two witnesses also confirmed that they had known Jean Aujou to be a honest and decent man and merchant, based on the contacts and conversations they had with him.

Dear Rene

Another very interesting document. Thanks for your quick response.

What a lovely reference they gave for Jean Anjou. I assume if you were elected to be headmen of the Guild you were trusted and respected by your fellow potters and you were a good citizen to take on the additional work and responsibility of such a position.

The Mesch family certainly seem active in Delft. I've found another document which features Simon Simonsz Mesch & Simon Jorisz Mesch together with Jan Bruin, the Delft salesman that owed money to many Delft potters- including the Mesch cousins.

But I'll leave that for another day!

very best wishes

Anne
