On the 28th of August 1638
Appeared as before* Jacob Leurtss, originally from Wageningen,
mason's apprentice, 22 years of age, not having any parents**,
living in the Haarlemmerdwarstraat, and Stijntie
Douwes, orginally from Enkhuizen, 21 years of age, living in the
Anjelierstraet, not having any parents**.

* this phrase refers to the aldermen on duty that day, mentioned in one of the previous registrations of that same day; in this case, the aldermen are mentioned on page 150: Jacob Bicker and Outgert Pieters Spiegel

** this phrase was commonly used when both parents were said to be deceased.

The printed part is a standard text used with minor variations throughout the period of the marriage banns. Summarized, it states that 1) the couple has asked for their marriage to be proclaimed on three consecutive Sundays in the Reformed churches (as they were both Reformed, they could marry in the Reformed Church, at the time privileged by the Dutch government, the Reformed marriage was also recognised as a valid marriage for the law), 2) the couple has asked to solemnize their marriage after unhindered completion of the third marriage announcement, 3) the couple declared that neither of both had promised marriage or was bound by marriage to anyone else but the partner involved, 4) the couple had stated not to be related in a degree that would prohibit a legal marriage (i.e. they were not closely related by either blood or marriage to each other).

Please note that these registers concern the marriage banns and not the actual marriages. The actual marriages can be found in the marriage registers of the Reformed Churches, Stadsarchief Amsterdam, archive 5001, inv.nrs. 987-1000, usually around 15-21 days after the date of the bann inscription. The actual marriage registration holds however little additional information, usually only the names of the spouses married are registered.
