Amsterdam 7 - early baptism records

In not all cases the names are of witnesses, some of them indicate the location the family lived at at that moment

they lived outside the city walls near the town gate of Saint-Anthony, now better known as the Waag-building on the Nieuwmarkt

* see remark on 1, but this time it is just mentioned they lived 'outside the gate' ** Cls may be an abbreviation of either Cl[ae]s or C[orne]l[is]
Please note that baptism date is 5 May instead of 5 June 1566

* S. Anti is short and contraction for S[int] Ant[on]i = of Saint-Anthony, referring to the town gate of Saint-Anthony

* probably indicating the father was at sea ** I am not entriely sure about the transcription, but given the structure of other entries on the same page, this moght refer to the (still exisiting) Monnikenstraat, at that time just outside the town gate of Saint-Anthony, hence corresponding with the previous remarks ***  In case of small children and limited financial means, it was common to bear the coffin of the deceased child under the arm, instead of moving it on a bier (baar) **** This indicates the amount to be paid for the funeral (1 guilder and 9 stuivers); on the right page of the source payment was indicated as well as 'onss graeff' (our grave), indicating the child was buried in a common grave in stead of a personalized or family grave.

* bSAP is the abbreviation for buyten Sint Anthonis Poorte = outside the gate of Saint-Anthony ** This column probably contains the names of the women lifting the baptized child from the baptism font (doophefsters). From the repetition of names containing 'moor' or 'moer' it appears that this was in most cases done by specificly appointed women *** The 9 at the end is short for the -us suffix

* b.s.a.p is short for buyten Sint Anthonis poorte = outside the gate of Saint-Anthony ** Not entirely sure about the last name
