1681-Orphanage

This concerns Johan de Waert and his wife Cornelia van der Nulck.

It seems quite a long text so I wondered if it gives more than basic information?

Many thanks as always.

Anne

Anne, the right page has two short text on Van der Waerts! On February 1, 1681 the weescamer of Delft confirmed that their testament of May 6, 1656 excluded the weescamer.  Johan was a lector (voorleser) in de Nieuwe Kerk. The following text notes the confirmation on December 26, 1681of the will of schoolmaster Nicolaas van de Waert and Catharina van den Hoorn of November 7, 1630, again a will excluding the weescamer. Be careful to distinguish between a weeshuis, orphanage, and the weescamer, the orphan chamber was a city committee with a legal task.

Otto and Anne,

the third text also concerns the De Waert family: Jacobus Schipperheym, uncle of the children of Johannes de Waert, delivered an inventory of the assets, bequeathed by grandmother Catharina van Eenhoorn (also mentioned in the second text); the 4 children of Johannes de Waert, named Niclaes, Catharina, Dichnum and Raagel jointly inherit 1/5 of the inheritance, as well as a joint legac of 200 guilders in total (so 50 guilders each). The text perhaps continues on the next page...

Thx Renë for looking just a bit further and giving the correct name of the grandmother! ;-)

Thank you Otto and Rene.

How interesting that there were 3 mentions of the de Waert family in one document.

I'll double check Rene if the text continues and will post it if I find it.

very best wishes

Anne

Hi Anne,

The docs are closely related. The first was to confirm the exclusion of the Orphans' Chamber of involvement in the inheritance of Johan de Waert. The second one was to confirm that the Chamber was also excluded from involvement with the inheritance of Johan's mother to her grandchildren, the third document probably served to prove that the grandmother's inheritance to the children of Johan de Waert (i.e. her grandchildren) was processed properly.
