1679- Orphanage- short content

This concerns Leendert van der Leth and his wife Petronella van Dijssel.

Leendert died in 1679 so I assume this concerns their only child, Anna Maria der Leth (although I'm not sure she's named?)

As always, any extra information would be welcome.

Many thanks

Anne

As this is just a short document, the easiest way was to translate the text directly.

Leonart vander Leth

On the 28th of October, 1679, at the Orphans' Chamber has been exhibited an authentic copy of the last will of Leonart vander Leth, master potter, and of Pieternelletge Jans van Dijssel, his wife, passed on the 3th of August, 1673, before the notary Abraham vanden Velde en witnesses within this town, and effectuated by the death of the aforementioned Vander Leth; the will showed that the Orphans' Chamber had been excluded (from dealing with the inheritance and custody). This act has been composed by the gentlemen educated in law, Mr. Dirck van Beresteyn and Mr. Hugo van Bleyswijck, both governors of the Orphans' Chamber.

Oh many thanks Rene. That's really helpful.

I expected the Orphan's Chamber to be excluded, as Leendert was Catholic (and I think Petronella 'converted' on her marriage to Leendert).

Having the name of the notary who passed their will in 1673 will be useful as it now means I should be able to find their original will.  More searching needed!

very best wishes

Anne

I've searched the notary records but I'm having a problem locating a will for Leendert & Petronella. It clearly states an authentic copy of the original will was shown in the Orphan chamber with that date for the original.

The only entry for 3 August 1673 is not for this couple.  https://hdl.handle.net/21.12115/NL-DtAD5710694

I've checked all of July 1673 and into September but no luck. I can see quite clearly the date on the document reads 3 August 1673, so does anyone know why I can't find it?

Any tips gratefully received.

with thanks

Anne

Quick update- I've found it!

Using the index at the front of the book I was able to track it down- it wasn't in 'date order' as such. Will post it shortly :-)
