1665 marriage

This is an example of the reason why prospective marriage partners needed to have their marriage intention proclaimed on three consecutive Sundays after putting up the banns; these three proclamations were meant to inform the public about intended marriages, so anyone who had legal objections against the marriage would have the opportunity to do submit their objections; as soon as an objection was submitted, the next proclamations were halted until the objection was examined.

In this case, after the second proclamation, a woman (name not mentioned) apparently opposed the intended marriage, as she was convinced the groom had made a prior marriage promise to her; the third proclamation therefore was suspended. As eventually the third proclamation was made, the objection submitted either had been withdrawn by the claimant, or had proven to be untrue.

On the 1st of March 1665, 
an attest was provided by the
offcials of Schipluiden, and the marriage was
celebrated there later.

Schuipluiden is where Catholics went to get married wasn't it? Another of my lady potters was married there, Petronella van Dijssel who married Leendert van der Leth, who was definitely Catholic.

A few years later Leendert van der Leth loaned Elisabeth Klinck 7,500 guilders to buy a pottery factory. Maybe coincidence, but interesting nonetheless.
