1657- Surety, Golden Fleece

This document concerns Arent van Straten and his wife Maria Kittensteijn whom I think are acting as  guarantors and co-principals of a debt on The Golden Fleece for Phillip van der Bilt , who was the son-in-law of Arent van Straten, (Philip was married to Arent's daughter Heyltge).

Again it would be interesting to know what was involved in this arrangement between these 3 people.

Thanks as always for any help.

best wishes

Your assumption is correct. Arent and Maria are both mentioned as guarantors and co-principals of a loan made by Philippus van der Bilt, who owes the amount of 2000 guilders and the interest thereof to Pieter Willemsz van der Vliet. Arent, Maria, and Philippus are each personally held responsible for the full debt, they are not allowed to be responsible for only a part of the debt.
