1640 Orphan chamber

This again concerns Harman Jansz Houwaert and his first wife Abigael de Laet, and the orphan chamber in Delft.

Made in 1640- the same year he remarried Barbara- see previous post.

Does this mention his 2 children he had with Abigael or when she died?

Many thanks

Anne

Dear Anne,

No, it only shows that their mutual testament was exhibited to the governors of the Orphans' Chamber, as this testament explicitly states the Orphans' Chamber to be excluded from involvement in the inheritance arrangements.

The testament referred to was dated 19 June 1640 and passed before notary Jacob Spoors; we can only deduct from this that his wife Abigael de Laet was still alive on 19 June 1640.

Ok thanks very much Rene.

I haven't been able to trace their 2 children, b.1639 and early 1640 other than their births so I wondered if this document would shed any light on what happened to them.

I could see it was a very short text and I know from previous posts concerning the orphan chamber that the children aren't often named, but I thought it was worth trying.

very best wishes

Anne
