So this confirms Simon Mesch was still alive in 1617 I assume.....

I wonder what the brother's wanted a garden and yard beyond Watersloot for?

Perhaps just an investment or for their goldsmith business? Guess we'll never know :-)

This may very well have been an investment, especially looking at the increased price (700 guilders in in 1617, 950 in 1625). I would suggest to contact the persons at Erfgoed Delft to find out more about this area.

From Amsterdam it is known that new land drained and intended for building new parts of the city in the 17th century led to land speculation, and made some of the Amsterdam elite very rich (but also very hated...)

Thanks so much for the additional information about land speculation. I find it so interesting and agree with you that what occurred in Amsterdam probably also applied in Delft.

I'll take up your suggestion and follow up with Erfgoed Delft to discover more about the area.

Seems there's more to discover about this Mesch family :-)

(And that's before I start on the 'art' connection of Francis Mesch, Hans & Simon's brother).....
