1610- Mes brothers and their aunt

The constituants were the brothers Sijmon, Franchoys and Hans Mes, all goldsmiths and living at the Marktveld in Delft, all children of the late Jasper Mes. They authorized Jan Rogh, tailor living in Huyssen (given the context most probably Huissen in Guelders) and also cousin/nephew (for both the term in Dutch is the same: 'neef') by marriage to the brothers to act on their behalf in the settlement the inheritance of the late Pietertgen Mes, their paternal aunt, who had been married to a certain Louwijs, who worked as a 'blauwverver' (someone who painted clothes dark blue, using indigo paint) at the German town of Rees, just across the (current) Dutch-German border. As a widower, Louwijs was also heir of the inheritance of his late spouse'; the brothers insisted that Jan Rogh would make sure the ownership of the house Pietertgen en Louwijs had lived in, would befall to Pietertgen's family, either right away or after the death of widower Louwijs. Furthermore the brothers authorize Jan Rogh to act in all formal and financial matters on their behalf.

Usually, the witnesses mentioned at the end of such a deed are not related to any of the parties involved. In this case however, both witnesses, tailor Willem Corneliszen vander Buyten and Pieter Anthoniszen, merchant in knifes, are mentioned as being neighbours to the brothers.

These are the Mes(ch) family you helped me with back in January. When I was in Den Haag last week I went to the KB library to view "Delfts Zilver' by Dr Pieter Biesboer a book about gold and silver smiths in Delft, which featured all of the Mes family. Highly recommended if anyone is researching this topic.
