1584? Deed-

This is a photo of a page from Haarlem archives who have just introduced a new system using Transkribus, making it easier to find people in the records but not to download the legal documents. This was the best I could do to copy the page I'm interested in, so I hope it's readable.

This concerns Cornelia Fransdr (Wij) who was married to Adriaen Dircksz de Vriese.(He was the man holding a letter in the portrait of 1580 which I also posted on here for help with).  I think it states she is a widow? But there is also mention of her father in law Dirck de Vriese?

What would be really interesting to know, if at all possible is

1) What's the date of this deed

2) What's the deed about?

3) Is her father in law still alive when this deed was created?

Many thanks as always for any assistance.

very best wishes

Anne

Cornelia Fransdr Wij, widow of the late Adriaen Dericxs de Vriese, appearing as the sole heir of her late father Frans Claess Wij. She is assisted by Derick Jacobssen de Vriese, her father-in-law and former mayor of the town, who she had chosen to be her legal guardian in this matter. She appoints Gerryt van der Berch and Adriaen Dircxsen de Jonge, both prosecutors with the Hof van Holland to act on her behalf in a case against Aelbert Gerrytsse Fijnebuyck 'and all others'. It is not mentioned what the case was about.

1. The deed is dated 'naastleden' (a term unknown to me) August 1583

2. The deed is an authorisation to the court prosecutors to act on her behalf in the case mentioned

3. Her father-in-law was present at the composition of this deed and acted as her legal guardian in this case, appointed as such ('gecoren') by Cornelia herself

Hi Anne, in addition to my prior response on question 1: when reading it again, it appeared to be dated 'naestlesten Augusti' = the day before the last of August = 30 August [1583].

Dear Rene

That is absolutely fantastic! Thank you so much.

The information is invaluable to the Schoonhoven sister's family history. I don't think anyone has found Cornelia's father's name before.

But so sad that not long after the portraits of Adriaen and Cornelia were painted he died. It could also explain why they had a portrait of perhaps their only daughter Cornelia painted in 1583?

warmest best wishes

Anne
