1647- Inventory

This deed is described as an inventory on Delft archives website.

It includes Anna van Broeckhoven, Aeltgen Willemsdr Kittensteijn and possibly her new husband Cornelis Pietersz van der Beecq.

It's a fairly short deed, just 1page so I'm not sure why it's called an inventory?

Any further explanation would be very welcome.

Best wishes

Anne

Hi Anne,

The page displayed is actually the final page of a combined deedy, starting at scan 116 of https://hdl.handle.net/21.12115/NL-DtAD5709623

The document starts with the inventory of the goods brought into the marriage by Aletha (Aeltgen). After her signature there is a short list of additional items that can be asked back by the heirs of Aletha.

The page displayed now is a statement where Anna van Brouckhooven acknowledges she has received the goods brought into the marriage by her late daughter Aletha, Anna being her sole and universal heir; it appears that Aletha died soon after she was married. She probably died of a disease, as the final page also states that her widower should pay the costs of the doctor's visits, adding up to 75 guilders in total.

Unfortunately I do not have the time now to transcribe the list of possessions, but at a glance it seems interesting, because the possessions of Aletha / Aeltgen are mentioned in detail.

Dear Rene

Many thanks for your summary of this document.

I've now found, via the link you sent the full inventory list of Aeltgen's marriage contribution. As you say it's a long list which would be fascinating to understand more fully, although I understand completely you don't have the time to do right now. If only it had been written by the notary I previously posted, even I might have been able to have a go at deciphering the text!

But it's also really interesting the extra information revealed just from this one page. I'm assuming 75 guilders for a doctor's bill in 1647 was a lot? Aeltgen was nearly 40 years old when she married. As I've found with all the Kittensteijn family there is no record of her burial in Delft.

I also wonder what the significance of the items returned to her mother were?

warmest best wishes

Anne
