Hello everyone,
I’m hoping someone with experience in 17th-century French notarial documents can help me.
Below, I have a notarial act filed in Leiden in September 1661 concerning my ancestors Bartholomeus Andries and Anne Gerard (a Belgian couple). The handwriting is quite challenging, and since the text is in French, I’m struggling to make out many words.
Would anyone be willing to take a look and help with a transcription (or at least a partial one)? I can upload clear scans of the document.Any assistance would be sincerely appreciated — this is an important piece of my father’s family history.
Thank you in advance!
Best regards,
Steve Barnhoorn

Today, on the 9th day of the month of September 1661, appeared before me, François Doude, public notary, admitted by the Provincial Court of Holland upon the nomination of the magistrates of the city of Leiden, residing in said city, and in the presence of the witnesses named below:
Bartholomeus Andries, draper (cloth merchant), married to Anne Gerard, his wife, residing in this city of Leiden, who of his own free will and without any coercion has declared that he has sold, ceded, and transferred, as he does by this present deed, for the benefit of Hubert Simonon, his uncle, who is present and accepts, a certain piece of property situated at Bresse in the land of Liège, belonging to the said appearer and coming to him through inheritance upon the death of his wife’s grandmother.
The said appearer thus makes full cession and transfer to the benefit of the said Hubert Simonon, so that he may deal with the said property—use, sell, dispose of, or receive it—just as with all his other personal goods, without retaining any further right or claim to the said property, placing him in full and actual possession thereof.
Finally, the said appearer declared himself fully satisfied with this cession and transfer, having received payment in full, from the first coin to the last.
And since it is appropriate that the said Hubert should build upon the said property in order to inhabit it, the said appearer has agreed, and hereby agrees, that the buyer Hubert may, immediately after his purchase or whenever he pleases, build and construct a house, stables, and such additional buildings and structures as he deems suitable.
On the condition that, if anyone should exercise a right of redemption (re-purchase) over the said property or garden, the one reclaiming it must reimburse him for his costs and expenses.
And to confirm and formalize the above before the aldermen of Liège and all other courts as needed, the parties have appointed and authorized all bearers of this document, each of them jointly and severally.
Thus done and executed in the city of Leiden on the day and year as above, in the presence of Jean Crechon, draper, and Guillaume le Coeur, clerk, both trustworthy witnesses called for this purpose.

This is great. Thanks for the transcription.
