1679- Will

This is the will of Willem van Teijlingen- and perhaps his second wife Jannetge van Straten (although I can't see her name- or signature?) so it would be really good to know what this deed contains.

With many thanks.

Anne

Dear Anne,

It is the last will of Willem van Teijlingen, pottery baker, who is ill and laying in bed, but sound of mind. He declares his sole and universal heir to be his wife Jannetge Claes van Straten. She will however be held to pay a sum of 8000 Carolus guilders, equally divided between her sister-in-law Cornelia van Teijlingen and the children of another sister-in-law already deceased, this sum to be paid within four years after the death of Willem.

Also, Jannetge will be held to pay an annual sum of 200 guilders to the mother of Willem for as long as Willem's mother will live, to be paid annually at the day of Willem's death.

Dear Rene

Goodness, that seems a lot of money to find doesn't it? A pity it doesn't say how much he left in his estate to Jannetge his wife to know what proportion of her inheritance she had to give to others.

It's very interesting because I've seen in another book that Jannetge van Straten in 1680 had debts. The deed is with the same notary, 25th September 1680 -but I haven't been able to pinpoint it in the notary's archive (the writing is pretty bad!). I'll have another look tomorrow to see if I can track it down and post it.

Many thanks for your help as always.

Anne

Hi Anne,

Can you post the deed in which this doc of 1680 was mentioned?

Hi Rene

The reference to the 1680 deed comes from a fantastic book "Delfts aardewerk: geschiedenis van een nationaal product" by Marion S van AKen-Fehmers, 1999. She was a renowned curator and "ambassador of Delftware" at the Kunstmuseum The Hague (formerly Gemeentemuseum) (1995–2013).

In the book she researched 4 pottery factories, including the 'Moriaanshooft' (The Moorshead).

Below is a copy of the notes that accompany the text in the book (my italics & underling).

'In 1679, Jannetge van Straten became a widow for the second time.(32).'

Note 32. Willem van Teylingen deceased/buried, GAD, DTB, inv.nr. 43, fol.141 (Nieuwe Kerk), 2 October 1679. As estate holder of Jacob Wemmersz. Hoppesteijn, the widow Jannetge had debts here and there, see for example GAD, ONA 2283, 25 September 1680 (not. W. van Ruyven).

very best wishes

Anne

p.s. this is the same book I got the reference for Willem Van Trillingen's will- above on this thread.
