Compareerden als vooren Johannes Cambri van Amsterdam, hoedecramer,
woonende om de hoeck van de Minnebroersteech,
geassisteert met sijn moeder Sara Wessels, out 25 jaer,
overleggende acte van inteeckeninge vor hem met
Maria van Kittesteyn tot Haerlem.
Bedankt Geert.
This is quite curious, and I haven't seen any marriage registration like this before. Does it make any sense to you?
Also according to Google translate Johannes was a 'shepherd'- which seems very unlikely in mid 17th century Amsterdam- but of course I could be wrong! It's also puzzling why Maria was in Haarlem- I thought she was from Delft.
best wishes
Anne
Ann, Google translate really did mess it up. His profession is Hoedecramer, also spelled as hoedenkramer. This is a (traveling) salesman that sells hats of all sorts.

I can guess why G. translate suggested shepherd. The first part hoede- looks like the word 'hoeder', meaning one that is busy herding animals (sheep, geese, ...). So it guessed that, since herding was involved, shepherd it had to be.
Anne, sorry, but I wrote Ann in my previous post. Won't happen again ;-)
Andres- absolutely no problem :-)
I'm just happy that so many kind people on this site offer their time and expertise to help a non-Dutch reader with my research project. I really couldn't do it without you all.
As I've said to Rene in the past, if my work ever gets published I will certainly acknowledge all the contributors to my research (if of course they are happy for me to do so- and I would double check nearer the time).
very best wishes.
Anne.
p.s travelling salesman selling hats sounds much more likely than a shepherd!
